Our Patient Care Policies
At King Street Medical Centre, we take pride in providing high-quality care in a safe and comfortable environment. Our policies help us deliver that standard consistently for every patient.
These policies cover appointment scheduling, prescription renewals, confidentiality, uninsured services, and more — so you always know what to expect.
Patient Information
What to know before your visit
Eight clear policies designed to make every visit smooth and respectful for patients and staff alike.
Health Cards
Bring your health card to every visit — it is required for check-in. You are responsible for carrying a valid card at all times. If your card is missing or invalid, you will be billed at regular OHIP rates before being seen. Keep your card up to date to ensure uninterrupted access to care.
Uninsured Services
OHIP covers medically necessary services. Any service outside this coverage is billed directly to the patient. Common uninsured services include:
- Prescription refills by phone
- Driver medicals and third-party examinations
- Missed appointments
- Work and school-related notes
- Medical forms for insurance, legal, or employment purposes
- Photocopying, faxing, and transfer of medical records
Respectful Work Place
We have zero tolerance for abuse towards our staff, patients, and physicians. Abuse includes intimidation, impatience, and manipulation. All incidents are recorded and reported to the appropriate personnel. Corrective action may include termination of patient status or involvement of peace officers, depending on the severity of the incident.
Medical Appointments
Please inform staff of the reason for your visit when booking. Most appointments are 15 minutes long. Your doctor will focus on your primary concern and, if needed, schedule follow-up visits for additional issues. Staying focused on your main concern also helps the clinic manage patient flow for everyone.
Patient Check-In
Forms are available for patients to complete before check-in, particularly during a first visit. All completed forms are treated as strictly confidential and securely shredded after the appointment.
Prescription Renewal
Medication refills must be addressed at the time of your appointment. Unless it is an emergency, please book your refill appointment at least two weeks in advance. King Street Medical Centre maintains a No Phone or Fax Prescription Renewal Policy. We do not refill narcotics or controlled medications outside of a scheduled visit.
Cancellation & Late Arrival
Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or if you will be late for your appointment. Cancellations without adequate notice may result in a No Show Fee. Three or more missed appointments without notice may be grounds for dismissal from the practice.
No Show Fee
If you are unable to attend your appointment, notify the clinic at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a No Show Fee. Accumulating three or more no shows may result in dismissal from the practice, at the discretion of your physician.
